"This summer, the world goes black as Warren Ellis unveils his all-new super-powered heroes and villains epic that promises to be the biggest event of 2007! With art by the genius Juan Jose Ryp, no fan of The Authority or Wanted will want to miss this bleeding-edge eight issue masterpiece. The #0 features an original story that leads directly into the full-size monthly series that starts in August priced at just $2.99 per issue, from Avatar Press.

When the political situation in the USA becomes more than Horus can stand, he moves to take matters into his own hands. But since not all his other team-mates aren’t so eager to throw the world into chaos, an epic conflict starts to form. And no one will be safe as the bodies start to fall."

Black Summer is the new mini-series I am coloring for Avatar Press. Juan Jose Ryp's art is fantastic, and Warren's story has me excited about a super hero book for the first time in years. Even if I weren't coloring this book I would still be tremendously excited about it, and looking forward to each issue like a kid unwrapping Christmas presents.

Just look at all that blood. I mean, could the point not have been put across somewhat more subtly? It almost seems as if it's just there to be shocking. BLOOD BLOOD BLOOD. Lots of it. I dunno, man. On its own, this piece would totally put me off; but as it's part of a comic book, it has the opposite effect, and I actually really want to buy the book now, if only to see how it turns out.

Thanks Daniel. I'm really enjoying working on this - Fantastic story so far, and Ryp's incredibly detailed work is a lot of fun to color. I just posted three new Lady Death vs. Pandora covers, two of which are over your art. Hope you like them!
I believe the cover is meant to be as shocking as possible.... executions in the Oval Office is NOT a thing to be taken lightly. Even if I weren't coloring this book, it would still be the only 'super hero' book I've been excited about and looking forward to in *years*.
I'd order now, if you can. Many comic shops don't carry a lot of Avatar Press books, so to make sure you get a copy ask your local retailer to order now!

The first issue, #0 (out in June), is a whopping 99˘. Yes. Ninety-nine cents. And by ordering early, you can tell your retailer which version you want - this wrap cover, or the single cover featuring John Horus.

The series continues in August, and each issue is $2.99 each starting with #1.
Fabulously gruesome and gruesomely detailed - the white suit and cape are particularly effective with the stains of the carnage. I like especially the way you've handled those bubbles/orbs. Congratulations for getting a DD!

Blasphemy is a victimless crime
Hmm. Funny how whether or not this was meant to be funny, it really isn't funny at all. Oh, it isn't the blood that bothers me. It's the sickening feeling I get when I see blood all over an office where such heroes as Abraham Lincoln and Ronald Reagan have given their sweat (and, in some cases, yes, their own blood, as ironically fitting as it may be) for land and people they believed in.

Call me a closet patriot. Whatever. But this just makes me sad. =\

I'm covered with the fingerprints of everyone I've ever met. ~~ I don't want to love with my knees turned to jelly, my head spinning, or butterflies in my stomach; but, instead, with eyes wide open and both feet planted firmly on solid ground.~~
